Sh2-263, LBN 867, and vdB 38



Scope: Explore Scientific MN152 Maksutov Newtonian at f/4.8, Location: DAA Observatory, Shelter Valley, CA, 28 December 2019 and 22 January 2020,  Camera: ST8300M (Baader Ha LRGB filters)

Exposure: Exposure: 18 x 10 min  (1x1 bin) exposure with UV/IR block filter, 19 x 10 min (2x2 bin) exposure with Ha filter, 8 x 4.5 min (2x2 bin) each RGB exposures.

Processing: Data Collection -  Sequence Generator Pro (as FITs).  Subframe calibration - Pixinsight. Subframe  registration and integration (Average combine -  Winsorized Sigma Clipping) - PixInsight.  Non-linear stretching, normalization and gradient removal - PixInsight.  Generation of starless nebulosity Luminance image for later processing - starnet++. Curves, Levels, RGB combine, Luminance layering - PixInsight. Stars and Starless  Luminance combine - PixInsight.  Final finishing  - Photoshop.  RGB calibration - eXcalibrator. Annotation - PixInsight, Aladin (Simbad and NED), and PhotoShop. This image is an "off road" process treatment with Ha and Blue both treated as a narrow band starless combination in pixel math. The starless mix (like a modified HOO) was then combined with a straight RGB stars image process with Luminance layering.  Images processed at 3352 x 2532 resolution. Final Image size is approximately  3000x2250.

North is up in this image.  This image shows a region of dust illuminated by nearby a nearby star reflecting its (blue) light - as well as Hydrogen ionized by the same star (red Ha ionization). The star is  HD 34989 (also known TYC700-1015-1 in the annotation image - at magnitude 5.76). The reflection structure is vdB 38; the Ha emission structure is Sh2-263 (also as LBN 867). There are several other objects in this field - open cluster Dolidze 19, dark nebula LDN 1588, a second HII region in the main structure LBN 866, and several background galaxies. These objects and some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated image. Horizontal FOV is approximately 88 arc minutes. Full size image scale is 1.76 arcsec/pix.

Image center is approximately - Equatorial 2000: RA: 05h 21m 45s Dec: +0823'57"
