M53 in Coma Berenices
Archives

Scope: C8 f/10,  Location: Del Mar CA  14 Apr. 2004, Camera: ToUcam SC3

Exposure: 18 x 32 sec Luminance with IR  block filter, 10 x 32 sec each RGB  filter.

Processing: Images were captured in K3CCDTools. Aligned/stacked in Registax and saved as FITS. Luminance and Color channels were scaled and rough color balanced in Astroart. Channels were co-registered in Astroart. Luminance and Color FITS were combined in Photoshop with Luminance Layering. Color balancing and final touches in Photoshop. SGBNR was used to smooth background noise on the Luminance channel and the final result

This image was a guided image. This image is the first of three in this area of Coma Berenices. The image directly below is the wide field view of both M53 and its faint cousin NGC5053 - another loose globular cluster. This image replaces an earlier image that can be seen in the Archives here. Horizontal FOV is about 8'

Wide Field M53 and NGC5053

Scope: ST80 f/2.5,  Location: Del Mar CA  11 Apr. 2004 and 14 Apr. 2004, Camera: ToUcam SC3

Exposure: 20 x 4 sec Luminance with IR  block filter and 18 x 20 sec with IR block and Orion Skyglo filter, 12 x 15 sec each RGB  filter.

SGBNR was used to smooth background noise on the Luminance channel and the final result. Processing was very similar to that of the above image (M53) however, additional histogram stretching was used for the NGC5053 area to enhance its visibility.

This image was an unguided image. This image is the second of three in this area of Coma Berenices. The image shows the bright M53 in the upper right and a very dim NGC5053 to the lower left. The star field was fairly sparse in this area of the sky. Horizontal FOV is about 80'

NGC 5053

Scope: C8 f/5,  Location: Del Mar CA  11 Apr. 2004, Camera: ToUcam SC3

Exposure: 20 x 24 sec Luminance with IR  block filter, 12 x 24 sec each RGB  filter.

This image is the last of three in this area of Coma Berenices. Horizontal FOV is about 16'
