Scope: C8  f/4.4, Location: Dos Picos Park, Ramona CA,   31 May 2005  Camera: Artemis285

Exposure: 8 x 180 sec Luminance exposures with IR block, 6 x 72 sec RGB exposures.

Processing: Images were captured Artemis Capture (as FITs). Aligned/stacked in Registax 3 and saved as FITS. Luminance and Color channels were scaled and rough color balanced in Astroart. Central gradient removal was also done in Astroart. Channels were co-registered in Astroart . Final LRGB combine was done in Photoshop using Luminance Layering (or LLRGB). Photoshop was also used to subtract background noise from the luminance channel. Color balancing and final touches were done in Photoshop. Minor star repair was made on edge stars which otherwise experienced some coma .  SGBNR was used to smooth remaining background noise on the final result. Final Image size is approximately 1392x1040.

North is up in this image. The image was guided for all exposures. M101, located in Ursa Major, is somewhat irregular in that the core appears to be off center in the spiral. Also, there is a faint but extended arm extending nearly to the upper edge of this image. M101 contains many gaseous knots in its arms as can be seen in this image. This image replaces an earlier image that can be seen in the Archives here.  Horizontal FOV is 43'.

Image center is approximately - Equatorial 2000: RA: 14h 03m 12s Dec: +54°20'58"
