LBN 864 in Orion
|
Scope: C8 f/2.6 Location: Dos Picos Park, Ramona, CA 10 Mar. 2005 Camera: ToUcam SC3 Exposure: 16 x 24 sec and 16 x 8 sec Luminance Exposure with IR Block filter. 6 x270 sec H-Alpha Exposure 12 x 30 sec RGB Exposures Processing: Images were captured in K3CCDTools 2. Aligned/stacked in Registax 3 and saved as FITS. Luminance and Color channels were scaled and rough color balanced in IRIS. Channels were co-registered in IRIS. The Nebulosity was extracted from HA exposure and then combined with the 24 sec IR for Luminance in Photoshop - The 8 sec IR was used to minimize some star bloating. The red exposure was combined with the extracted nebula from the HA exposure to form the red channel construction. Luminance and Color FITS were combined in Photoshop with Luminance Layering. Color balancing and final touches in Photoshop. SGBNR (PixInsight LE) was used to smooth background noise on Luminance channel as well as the final result. Image was resized to 800 x 600. This image was taken at a dark site and was a guided image. The nebula is cataloged in the Lynd's Bright Nebula (LBN) catalog and not in the more widely known NGC or IC catalogs. This is an emission nebula and while the red coloring in this image is a false composite, the nebula has a predominant red band emission (Hydrogen-Alpha). The exposure with the Hydrogen-Alpha filter captures the light emission from this nebula effectively. Horizontal FOV is 30' Image Center - Equatorial 2000: RA: 06h 08m 36s Dec: +15°43'58"
